Who rents a storage unit

Renting is chosen by people who are short of space for a while or do not want to buy a unit for years: during a renovation or a move, when renting a flat without a basement, or for seasonal equipment. Units are also rented by companies and online shops for a small stock of goods. In that case, ask whether the building rules allow frequent visits and deliveries.

How much does it cost to rent a storage unit?

The price is set by the advertiser. It depends on the city and district, the floor area, access and security. You will see current rates in the listings below, and we describe what affects the price in the guide how much it costs to rent a storage unit.

How long can you rent a storage unit for?

For as long as you agree with the owner: for a fixed term, e.g. 3 months for a renovation, or for an indefinite term. With an indefinite-term contract and rent paid monthly, unless the contract says otherwise, notice must be given at least one month in advance, to the end of a calendar month. A fixed-term contract can be terminated in the situations written into the contract, so with a short rental it is worth agreeing on them from the start.

What to check before renting

  • Who is renting it out. Ask whether the advertiser owns the unit. If they rent it themselves together with a flat, they need their own landlord's consent to sublet it.

  • Access. Whether entry is round the clock or at set hours, and who provides the key or the code to the building or garage hall.

  • Condition. View the unit before signing the contract: damp, ventilation, door, lock.

  • What you may store. Fire regulations prohibit keeping gas cylinders in basements, even empty ones. Fuels and solvents are usually also prohibited by the building rules and the contract.

How to rent a storage unit step by step

  1. Choose a city, e.g. storage units for rent in Warsaw.

  2. Check the photos and the description: floor area, ventilation, security, access.

  3. Message the advertiser and arrange a viewing.

  4. Sign the contract and draw up a handover report together. Only then pay the deposit.

Storage unit rental agreement

You sign the contract directly with the advertiser; MaszBox is not a party to it. A notary is not needed, but put the contract in writing: the rent and payment date, the deposit, the duration and notice, the access rules and what must not be stored. We cover the other clauses in the guide what a storage unit rental agreement must include.
