Renting a container

A container for rent is a ready, lockable space for tools, materials, seasonal equipment or things during a renovation, usually with car access right up to the door. In listings you will most often find containers placed on the landlord's yard or property, which you use like your own storage box. Current offers are on the containers for rent page. If you are torn between a container and a warehouse inside a building, you will find a comparison of both options in the article warehouse or container.

Container for sale

Buying a container makes sense when you need space for longer and want to have it at your own place: on a plot, on a company yard or on a building site. You can move a container you have bought when your needs change. Sale offers are collected on the containers for sale page.

Types of containers in listings

  • Storage container. Steel, lockable, uninsulated. The most common choice for storing tools, materials and equipment that copes with temperature changes.

  • Insulated container. Its walls and roof are insulated, so the temperature inside changes more slowly. Better for things that frost and temperature swings can damage.

  • Office and welfare container. It has windows and often an electrical installation. It is used for working on site, for example as site facilities on a building site, not just for storage.

You can check the type of container in the listing description and photos. If something is missing, ask the advertiser.

What to look for when viewing a container

The container itself:

  • Corrosion: surface rust is normal, but rust-through holes and weakened parts of the structure are a warning sign.

  • Roof and corners: water stains inside mean the container leaks.

  • Doors: they should open and close without much resistance. Also check the seals, locking bars and hinges.

  • Floor: stable and dry, with no cracks or soft, damp spots.

  • Lock: whether you can fit a solid padlock or whether the container has a cover for it (lockbox).

The surroundings it stands in:

  • Yard: whether it is fenced and locked, and whether the area is lit.

  • Driving up: whether you can drive right up to the door, also in rain and in winter.

  • Ground: the container should stand level, ideally on sleepers, and not where water collects after rain.

  • Access: at what hours you can drive onto the yard.

A container also means different conditions than a building, especially when it comes to damp. How this affects stored things is described in the article warehouse or container. If you are looking for space inside a building, see the warehouses category.
