## New or used: condition codes in listings

Listings of used containers, especially shipping containers, often include abbreviations describing their condition: New / one-trip: an almost new container, usually after a single voyage with cargo. CW (cargo worthy): a condition that allows further sea transport. WWT (wind and water tight): a tight container that lets in neither wind nor water, but does not have to be fit for sea transport. For storing things on land it is usually enough. As-is: sold with no guarantee of condition. Buy it only after a careful inspection. Sellers do not always use these codes the same way, so ask what exactly they mean in a given offer and view the container before buying. What to look at (corrosion, roof, doors, floor) is described in the containers category.

## Buying from a company or a private individual: invoice and PCC tax

A container is usually bought as a movable item, and the rules depend on who is selling: From a company registered for VAT: you get an invoice, the price includes VAT, and you do not pay the civil law transactions tax (PCC). From a private individual: if the market value of the container exceeds 1,000 zloty, you pay 2% PCC. The tax is calculated on the market value, not on the price in the contract. It is paid by the buyer, who files a PCC-3 return and pays the tax to the tax office within 14 days of signing the contract. When buying from a private individual, write a sale contract: details of the parties, a description of the container (type, size, the number on its side, if there is one), the price, a description of its condition and the collection date. If you have doubts about how a specific transaction is taxed, for example when the container is permanently fixed to the ground, ask an accountant or the tax office.

## Transport after purchase: who arranges and pays

If the container is at the seller's, you usually arrange and pay for the transport. Before buying, agree: who pays for loading at the seller's, how long the container can stay there before you collect it, and put this date in the contract, what transport is needed: containers are usually moved by a truck with a crane, so ask the carrier which weight and dimensions they need to know. What to look out for at the spot where the container will stand (ground, access, obstacles above the unloading spot) is described with containers for rent. The formalities of placing a container on your own land are covered in the article warehouse or container. If instead of a container you are looking for property, meaning a warehouse in a building to own, see warehouses for sale. Have a container to sell? ## Common questions

### Will I pay tax when buying a container?

When buying from a private individual and the container's market value exceeds 1,000 zloty, you pay 2% PCC and file PCC-3 within 14 days. When buying from a company with a VAT invoice, PCC does not apply.

### Can I view the container before buying?

Yes, and it is worth doing, especially with containers sold "as is". Arrange a visit with the seller and check the container on site.

### Should I buy or rent a container?

If you need it for a few months, renting usually works out cheaper. If you need it for years, buying is often the more sensible choice. In both cases, add the cost of transport.

## How to search listings

You can search listings without JavaScript: https://maszbox.pl/en/szukaj.md returns results as Markdown. For an agent the simplest way is to pass every filter as a query parameter to that address. Every results address also works with the .md suffix, and a regular page address returns Markdown when the request sends the Accept: text/markdown header.

The full guide, with the address pattern, every filter and its allowed values, price units and paging, is at https://maszbox.pl/en/szukaj.md.
